As the
latest in the line of cat rigged boats from the drawing board of
the Wylie Design Group, the Wyliecat incorporates a proven concept
with state-of-the-art technology. The freestanding carbon fiber
mast and the wishbone boom are light, simple and effective on all
points of sail. The flexible mast top is an integral part of the
rig’s concept because it responds to wind pressure and adjusts
the sail shape automatically. The absence of traditional standing
rigging, reduces turbulence, thus improving aerodynamics and the
mainsail’s efficiency. The high-roach sails, common on windsurfers
and high-performance multihulls, are now available for your sailing
pleasure on a Wyliecat 44. And if fast isn’t fast enough,
add the optional spinnaker package for rocket speed off the wind.
With carbon construction in the hull, deck, rudder and spars, the
Wyliecat 44 displaces only 8,400 pounds. With 4,750 pounds of keel
weight (bulb and fin) the boat has an impressive ballast-to-weight
ratio of 57 percent. The resulting stability of the Wyliecat 44
ensures high performance sailing whether you go for a solo spin
or bring a full racing crew.
The laminate of the carbon hull, deck, and rudder is hand laid
and vacuum bagged. The unstayed carbon mast is manufactured from
braided epoxy and baked in an autoclave oven by Composite Engineering.
The Wyliecat 44’s engineering specs exceed those of the American
Bureau of Shipping. Below deck, beautifully varnished woodwork and
clear carbon reflect the exceptional quality of construction.
The interior is appointed with a mix of high-tech carbon construction
and fine woodwork; teak and holly floors, Spanish cedar trim and
Okume siding. It includes galley, nav station, head, and berthing
for up to six (aft and V-berths optional,) providing plenty of room
and comfort for an overnight cruise, or a Trans-ocean race.
